An Indian man offered them a ride to the city center for 60 Malaysian Ringgit (RM), which seemed like a good deal compared to their ride-hailing app quoting 69 RM. They accepted the offer, unaware of the trouble ahead.

However, complications began immediately. The driver’s wife also accompanied them in the vehicle. Upon reaching the hotel area, the driver didn’t stop as expected; instead, he drove into a dark and isolated corner. Then, shockingly, he demanded an exorbitant fare of 836 RM! He claimed the excessive charge included mileage, time, and night surcharges.

A Dangerous Standoff Ensued

The tourists understandably refused to pay this outrageous amount. Things escalated quickly—the driver's wife sternly declared, "You must follow my rules in my car." Then the driver locked the doors and drove in circles near the hotel, trapping the women inside.

Attempts to report the incident to the police and the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia were futile, leaving them stranded and scared. After a lengthy standoff, the driver’s wife allowed communication with hotel staff and approached the hotel entrance, yet the driver still refused to unlock the doors.

Desperate, the tourists resorted to banging on the car windows to attract help. Fortunately, attentive hotel staff finally intervened and forced open the doors, allowing the victims to escape.
